The Edmonton Oilers win over the Vancouver Canucks last night in the Stanley Cup Playoffs has caused an unexpected issue that will affect their salary cap next season.

The Edmonton Oilers pulled off a huge win against the Vancouver Canucks last night. The win clinched their place in the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Stars. They won the game without veteran forward Corey Perry who was a healthy scratch for the last two games of the series.

Despite being left out of the lineup Corey Perry earned a nice payday due to the Edmonton Oilers winning their series. He will get a $50,000 bonus for the Oilers making the Conference Finals.

With the #LetsGoOilers moving on to the 3rd RD, forward Corey Perry earns himself a $50,000 performance bonus as a result.

This now raises Edmonton's 2024-25 bonus overage penalty to $3,500,000.

This also means the Edmonton Oilers will have $3.5 million dollars less in salary cap space due to bonus overages. This is due to the bonuses players have earned exceed the salary cap. Now that total will have to come out of the 2024-25 salary cap.

With the limited amount of salary cap space the Oilers already have to work with this overage could majorly impact the roster construction for next season. With that in mind, the Edmonton Oilers need to do everything they can to secure their Stanley Cup this season.
