The Nashville Predators have shockingly and abruptly placed top-four defenseman Dante Fabbro on waivers in what many are calling an unexpected move.

The Nashville Predators are reportedly making a surprise roster decision, as veteran defenseman Dante Fabbro is being placed on waivers.

Of course, with big key offseason additions, and hopes for a strong start, unfortunately have the Predators dead last in the Central Division with an underwhelming 4-9-1 record after 14 games.

According to Sports insider Elliotte Friedman, 26-year-old Fabbro, a mainstay on Nashville's blue line over the last few seasons, is now on the waiver wire, something that has left fans in a state of shock considering his valuable contributions to the team over the years.

The former first-round pick has played 315 NHL games to date, scoring 16 goals and registering a total of 72 points.

Given that he has been a lineup regular over the last three seasons, this waiver decision is very surprising.

Scheduled to become a free agent this summer, the $2.5 million cap hit Fabbro carries means he's the exact type of player who could be claimed in the next 24 hours.

Considering that Fabbro has not appeared on the scoresheet in six games this season and his impact has been minimal throughout the entire season, it was still somewhat surprising to see the still fairly young defenseman being placed on waivers, considering his experience and contributions over the last few years.

Given that there are only a few players of significance to have hit waivers this season, this stands out as one of the more significant moves of this season thus far, and it's highly likely that teams that are in need of a good top-four defenseman will pounce on this opportunity to add him.

With the Predators continuing to struggle, it's anyone's guess how they will manage to find their rhythm, and if things remain the status quo, Fabbro may not be the only one shipped out of town.
