Some fans think Calgary Flames GM Craig Conroy didn't get enough in return for his star goaltender Jacob Markstrom who was traded to the New Jersey Devils. Yet former New Jersey goaltender Corey Schneider, went a different route and criticized Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald. I'm not too thrilled about it, it seems like a short-term stopgap

He pointed out that Markstrom, at 34 years old, might not have much left in the tank, especially considering his 6'6 frame. Goalies who are 6'6 don't tend to play into their late 30s very often. The wear and tear is just a lot. But it wasn't just Markstrom's age that bothered Schneider. He also lamented the loss of Kevin Bahl, a gritty defenseman for the Devils. Kevin Bahl is a good depth defenseman; he brings some nastiness and size to their back end. They're going to have to find a way to replace that. D Kevin Bahl will wear jersey number 7 for the Calgary Flames. Number last worn by TJ Brodie in 2019-20.

Schneider believes this trade might leave the Devils in a bind sooner rather than later. I'm not saying Markstrom can't hold up for a year or two, but it just seems like a short-term solution. In two years, are you going to commit to him again, or start the goalie search all over?
