Ehlers confirmed that not much has changed since the beginning of the year and his focus is still on winning a Stanley Cup with the Jets. There's not much to say,» Ehlers said. «I have the same answer I had in training camp. Right now it's about winning the Stanley Cup this year, and digging in. Focusing. I understand a lot of people have questions. But if I start thinking about that too much I'll start getting away from the hockey part of it Ehlers admits that he is far too focused on playing high quality hockey to have contract negotiations on his mind. I'm so focused on being the best version of myself out on the ice right now,» he continued. «And playing the best I can to help these guys get to where we all want to be. Where we've wanted to be (for) 10 years now. This means that any extension between Ehlers and the Jets would have to come after the season. With this being the case the Jets will now run a major risk that Ehlers leaves for nothing in free agency. As the deadline approaches all attention will be on Ehlers and Cheveldayoff as the team decides what to do with one of their star forwards.
