The Edmonton Oilers right now are one of the worst teams in the NHL. They are in the basement of the West with a record of 2-8-1, and are making hockey prognosticators look silly for selecting them to win the Stanley Cup. There is a lot of season remaining though.

The Edmonton Oilers have a newsworthy Tuesday in net

Unfortunately for Edmonton, the big UFA signing by Ken Holland in the 2022 off season, Jack Campbell, has not lived up to his $5 million AAV contract at all.

Ken Holland's big UFA signing in the 2022 was Jack Campbell. He signed the goalie to a five-year $25-million deal with an AAV of $5 million. To say it has not worked out so well as of now would be an understatement.

On Tuesday morning it appears the Oilers had enough.

In an effort to let Jack Campbell play in the AHL and rebuild his confidence, the Oilers have waived him. Campbell might also remain in the AHL until the Oilers are able to trade his contract.

The Oilers will not get much salary relief with the move as the team can only bury $1.15 million of Campbell's $5 million AAV.

Binnington coming to Edmonton sooner than later?

According to a source, the Oilers are attempting to land the Blues goalie.

The Oilers appear to be considering Jordan Binnington. The cap hit would almost work too. After this season, both goalies have three more years left on their contracts; however, Binnington and Campbell have a $6 million and $5 million cap charge, respectively. It would be necessary for the Blues to either retain salary, or for a few other pieces would need to be moved.

Since agreeing to the long-term contract in St. Louis, Binnington has had difficulties, although not nearly as many as Campbell. Each player has been a complete contrast to the other this season. In seven games, Binnington's save percentage is 0.924, whilst Campbell's save percentage is 0.873 in just five games.
