Hey USA hockey fans, we had a pretty unusual situation to share from Sunday's World Junior Summer Showcase. This afternoon, the tournament kicked off here in the United States, marking the start of the 2024-25 hockey season. This event features players from the USA, Canada, Sweden, and Finland, all competing for spots in the World Junior Championships later this year. Today, during the second game, Team USA Blue faced off against Sweden. But during warmups, something strange happened: American goalie Joey Slavick was seen in a Sweden jersey. It turns out that some of the Swedish players were still waiting on gear that got lost in transit, so USA NTDP goalie Joey Slavick stepped in as their emergency backup goalie (EBUG). Lines for Game 2 today between USA Blue and Sweden. A number of Sweden players still waiting on gear lost in transit so USA NTDP goalie Joey Slavick is their EBUG today. Also 👀 Perreault-Hagens-Leonard 👀

Slavick didn't play in the game, which ended in a 7-2 loss for Sweden. New York Rangers prospect Gabe Perrault scored two goals and had an impressive showing alongside 2025 NHL draft prospect James Hagens and New York Islanders prospect, Cole Eiserman, who holds the USANTDP all-time goal record and is an incoming star at Boston University. Gabe Perreault, Oliver Moore, Cole Eiserman and Joona Saarelainen were among my standouts from the first day of the World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth.

Buffalo Sabres prospect Adam Kleber also stood out with some big hits, great defensive plays, and nice puck touches. In the first game, USA White secured a 3-2 victory over Finland with a last-minute goal by James Reider. The round-robin tournament continues this week. Stay tuned for more action!
