Mitch Marner could be headed to California in this proposed trade between the Toronto Maple Leafs, Anaheim Ducks, and Montreal Canadiens. The crazy, fan proposed trade emerged on a hockey forum recently. The core of the trade is that the Ducks would receive Mitch Marner at 40% salary retained. Montreal would receive Trevor Zegras as well as doing the salary retention in the deal. The Leafs would receive a plethora of assets headlined by Canadiens defenseman prospect Justin Barron, Montreal's 2025 1st round pick, and Winnipeg's 1st round pick this year. As such, the trade would have to happen before the draft in order to happen. 🚨THREE WAY BLOCKBUSTER TRADE PROPOSAL: MTL-TOR-ANA🚨 Anaheim gives: Trevor Zegras Anaheim receives: Mitchel Marner (at 60% salary cap) - Toronto gives: Mitcher Marner Toronto receives: Justin Barron Montréal 2025 1st (top 5 protected) Winnipeg 2024 1st Pittsburgh 2025 2nd New Jersey or Vancouver 3rd, which ever is the better - Montreal gives: Justin Barron Montréal 2025 1st (top 5 protected) Winnipeg 2024 1st Pittsburgh 2025 2nd New Jersey or Vancouver 3rd, which ever is the better Montreal receives: Trevor Zegras 40% of Marner's salary cap hit

The deal would certainly provide a big boost to the Leafs prospect pool in the form of Justin Barron. They would also receive several, high-value draft assets to help build sustained success. However, the Leafs would undoubtedly become a worse team after this trade. However, they would also gain a lot of cap space to make additional moves. The Canadiens may be reluctant to trade a 1st round pick considering they are still in a rebuild, but adding Trevor Zegras to their forward core could make the team very interesting. For Anaheim, adding Mitch Marner could greatly accelerate their own rebuild, potentially getting the team into the playoffs within a couple of years. Zegras has been in trade rumors as well, so the deal could very well work from their perspective. That being said, Marner still has a no-trade clause so he could reject the deal if he does not want to play for the Ducks.
