Today Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid began skating again for the first time since suffering an ankle injury and after practice he spoke to the media.

Last week Connor McDavid suffered what appeared to be a serious lower-body injury against the Columbus Blue Jackets. An awkward collision between Connor McDavid and Blue Jackets player Ivan Provorov sent him spilling to the ice and eventually out of the game.

A couple of days later it was announced that Connor McDavid had a lower-body injury that would keep him out for at least 2-3 weeks. Today just a week later Connor McDavid was seen back on the ice for an optional skate with the Edmonton Oilers.

After the skate, Connor McDavid did end up taking questions from the media. There he addressed the injury he suffered, how it felt, and how soon he might be able to return to the Edmonton Oilers lineup.

Connor McDavid addresses his scary looking injury and current recovery

In a press conference after practice, Connor McDavid took several questions about the injury he suffered against the Columbus Blue Jackets. In the moment he was concerned that the injury was more serious however he confirmed that the diagnosis came back as good as it could have in the situation.

With his return to the ice for the Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid is officially ahead of schedule. As of now, he has been moved to more of a day-to-day status. His first potential opportunity to return looks to be against the Vancouver Canucks. The Oilers and Connor McDavid will have to come together and see if his return against the Canucks makes sense for all involved. In the meantime the plan is still for the Edmonton Oilers to follow the lead of Leon Draisaitl as he continues to take the reigns as the star of the team with Connor McDavid out.

We will pass along the latest news as more reports come out regarding Connor McDavid's health and potential return to the Edmonton Oilers lineup.
