Following the Montreal Canadiens game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team was delayed getting home after their plane collided with a fuel truck.

Expectedly, players of the Montreal Canadiens were looking forward to returning to Montreal on the same night after losing 3-1 to the Pittsburgh Penguins Saturday. The plan was to head back right after the game, regroup, and prepare for their upcoming schedule.

Things did not go quite that way, though. The expected trip back home did not materialize because the team's plane developed some problems when it collided with a fuel truck. The team had to get off and spend their night in Pittsburgh. This put them a little behind schedule, and the players spent an unexpected night sleeping in Pennsylvania.

Journalist Renaud Lavoie said the reason for the postponement was an accident involving a tanker truck, which ran into one of the wings of the plane that was to carry the Canadiens and thus made it unfit for immediate takeoff. The damage grounded the aircraft, pushing back the team's itinerary of travel until the next day. There were no reported injuries.

The irony is that this is not the first freakish accident involving the Canadiens while in Pittsburgh. Last year itself, an accident involving a bus had damaged their plane and forced the team to spend the night. So it would seem that for the players, Pittsburgh seems good at engineering unscheduled layovers.

Back on schedule now, the Montreal Canadiens' next game will come on Tuesday evening at the Bell Centre in Montreal as they go up against the Calgary Flames. This delay perhaps caused a wrench in their plans, but they will seek to reset and put last night's loss behind them on home ice.
