It's never easy to fall short of hoisting the Stanley Cup, especially when they come so close, as the Edmonton Oilers did on Monday night, after falling 2-1 in Game 7 to the Florida Panthers.

The Oilers battled hard, but came up a goal short. Head coach Kris Knoblauch didn't reveal much after the loss, but it's been learned that both Conn Smythe winner Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were playing through significant injuries.

A true captain 👏

McDavid has been dealing with an abdominal injury that likely requires surgery, while Draisaitl is believed to have a broken rib and finger.
"The war of attrition took its toll on the Oilers. Head coach Kris Knoblauch didn't divulge any information Monday night after the loss, but both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have been playing through significant injuries, Oilersnation has learned. McDavid has played through an abdominal injury that likely requires surgery, while Draisaitl has been banged up too, I've been told. He's believed to be dealing with a broken rib and finger. It's nothing new for a laundry list of players to be dealing with injuries after deep playoff runs, and surely we'll hear of more in the coming days." - Oilers Nation.

It's not uncommon for players to push through injuries during deep playoff runs, and we're sure to hear more about team's condition in the coming days, as well as injured but triumphant Panthers players. For now, we can only appreciate their determination and look forward to their comeback next season.
