Last night Toronto Maple Leafs forward Ryan Reaves laid a dirty hit on Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse and now several members of the Oilers have called him out. The Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs were expected to have a high flying exciting matchup against one another with stars shining for both teams. Sadly the story of the game was shifted away from each team's stars and on to Ryan Reaves for laying an incredibly dangerous hit on Darnell Nurse. The hit would send Darnell Nurse out of the game and Ryan Reaves would be ejected and then eventually handed a major suspension of five games.

After the game, both teams spoke about the play that led to the injury and ejection. The Oilers did not mince words when talking about what happened and laid into Ryan Reaves.
Edmonton Oilers call out Ryan Reaves after inexcusable hit on Darnell Nurse
During post game interviews the hit from Ryan Reaves was the topic everyone was asked about. First was Ryan Nugent-Hopkins who says that Ryan Reaves needs to realize that Darnell Nurse does not see him and adjust himself to not injure anyone.

Adam Henrique had similar sentiments acknowledging that the NHL is played at a high pace but every player who gets to that level can judge when to let up on a hit. The game's fast. But you know, just avoid the hit. We're professional athletes. Were able to make those decision quick in our head, and you know when a guy is vulnerable that's one you don't want to see. From these comments, it seems that in general there is an honor code amongst NHL players that when a player is in a vulnerable position do enough to separate the player from the puck but do not go for the big hit. As of now there is no firm update on Darnell Nurse's status going forward. He was seen in good spirits after the game joking with teammates.

With the potential for Darnell Nurse to miss some time due to this injury, the Oilers have called up defenseman Josh Brown from the AHL.

With a suspension handed out to Ryan Reaves one has to wonder if the Oilers will have revenge on their minds the next time these two sides meet or if justice was served.
