This evening a new report has been found from Edmonton Oilers insider Bob Stauffer connecting the team to a pair of players from the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Edmonton Oilers continue to hang around in the Stanley Cup Playoff race but have not taken the next step to a true contender yet. With a lack of production in all areas of the lineup many fans and those covering the team are clamoring for a trade to be made to bring in talent to the organization. Throughout the season the Edmonton Oilers have been linked to several various players that could certainly help bolster the forward group and the defensive unit. A new report from Bob Stauffer has linked the Edmonton Oilers to both Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Earlier this month the Edmonton Oilers were initially connected to Marcus Pettersson when it seemed clear the Pittsburgh Penguins were not a contender. With the Pittsburgh Penguins continuing to struggle the names available via trade have only increased with young forward Drew O'Connor being added to the mix.
Oilers could look to add multiple players in one trade with the Penguins
When taking a look at Drew O'Connor he has been one of the best up-and-coming players for the Pittsburgh Penguins over the last couple of seasons. After making his NHL debut in 2020-21 Drew O'Connor has steadily improved into an everyday NHLer who tallied 33 points last season at 25 years old. This season Drew O'Connor has tallied 4 points in 18 games and brings speed, size, and physicality to the Penguins lineup.

These traits are all things that the Edmonton Oilers value when evaluating players and they could fill a major need in their middle-six by acquiring Drew O'Connor. On top of all of that Drew O'Connor is already acclimated to playing alongside superstar players like Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin so fitting in with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl could be a natural fit. This trade would likely be one that is done closer to the trade deadline as each team firmly begins to understand where they fall in the NHL standings. If the Edmonton Oilers value the size and versatility of Drew O'Connor then he could be a great piece to add to the middle of the lineup.
