Oilers Corey Perry got involved in a fight on national TV at a WWE event

Corey Perry got himself into quite a fight Friday night, as he was seen holding back a wrestler at WWE's Smackdown, which shocked fans across the nation.

It may be the NHL offseason, but that didn't stop "The Worm" from getting a little hands-on during Friday night's WWE Smackdown.

Edmonton Oilers forward and NHL veteran Corey Perry was in attendance for the latest Smackdown event held conveniently in Edmonton, Alberta. Of course, Perry was there as a fan, but things took a pretty wild turn as he became part of the action.

The whole mayhem began when the wrestlers Austin Theory and Grayson Waller entered the scene, with the latter provoking the on-watching crowd on purpose by wearing a Florida Panthers jersey. That appeared to be a jab at the Oilers' following, and maybe it got under Corey Perry's skin, too.

Not long into Corey Perry's time on screen, Theory and Waller just walked out, fully decked in the Panthers' colors, and kept taunting him.

The fight broke out of the ring and into uncomfortably close proximity to where Corey Perry was seated. That is when Perry interjected himself, grabbing Austin Theory from behind, which proved to give fellow Canadian Kevin Owens an advantage that would prove crucial. Owens took immediate advantage and slapped Theory across the back of the head with authority, so loud that the entire Rogers Place could hear it.

Perchance, one day Corey Perry will be that figure in the wrestling ring when his hockey days are done.
