Matthew Tkachuk shares story about Darryl Sutter after Stanley Cup victory

Matthew Tkachuk shared a story earlier this week revealing how deep the connection is between himself and his former head coach Darryl Sutter.

Florida Panthers star forward Matthew Tkachuk was recently on the Cam and Strick podcast were he divulged numerous stories about last year's playoff run. This included a brief mention of his former coach Darryl Sutter from his time with the Calgary Flames. He noted that Sutter was among the first people to congratulate him on his Stanley Cup win.

He also revealed that the team had a player's only meeting after they lost game six, with the Edmonton Oilers erasing a 3-0 series deficit. At that moment in time, the Panther's season was in jeopardy as they had the potential to become the biggest laughing stock in the league if they dropped game seven. Funnily enough though, Tkachuk said that he was more upset that the team had to go back to Edmonton for game six than anything else, because he hates being there.

Tkachuk went on to share a hilarious story from the second round of the playoffs where the Panthers took on the Boston Bruins. During the series, we saw a rare fight as David Pastrnak dropped the gloves with Tkachuk for just his second career fight in the NHL. The Panthers forward told us that Pastrnak felt like he had to ask head coach Jim Montgomery permission to fight given how important he is to the Bruins. Additionally, Tkachuk told Panthers head coach Paul Maurice that he was going on the ice for the next shift to fight Pasta even though the Panthers were shorthanded and he typically does not kill penalties.
