Timothy Liljegren had a solid 2023/24 campaign in Toronto, but with the new additions, Brad Treliving is preparing to trade the young defenseman. The 2024/25 NHL season is still a long way away, and after a flurry of moves early from the Toronto Maple Leafs, now, it appears as though they're ready to start slimming their roster down. After adding three veterans to a defensive core that already included Jake McCabe, Morgan Rielly, Simon Benoit and Timothy Liljegren, someone has to go, and according to TSN's Chris Johnston, it may just be the latter. We'll see if Timothy Liljegren maybe still gets traded. I know he was signed to a 2-year extension, but I don't think you can entirely rule out a trade in his circumstance yet. They're still going to keep chipping away at the roster.

The 25-year old has averaged 21 points per season over the past three years for Toronto, but with more experienced names coming it, it looks like they would rather move him for potential future assets and cap flexibility. The team did just ink him to a two-year extension after all, and while it may not happen soon, it appears as though Brad Treliving has one last big move in him before training camp officially begins.
