It appears that the Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes may be closing in on a trade this summer, as an insider has proposed a trade between the two teams. Teams were busy this off-season so far, making trades at the draft and signing free agents, however, it appears that both the Hurricanes and Flames forgot to get that memo, as both teams have been unusually quiet thus far. However, according to an insider, that may all be changing very soon. A Brave New World for #Flames fans You wanted a rebuild? Well it sure looks like you're getting one. No team has more cap space than Calgary (& just 2 roster slots to fill!) A club that routinely spent to the cap for years will likely enter the season barely above the floor

The Flames have a tremendous amount of cap space, at nearly $22 million. That gives them the greatest flexibility than any other team in the NHL in terms of signing and trading players. Insider Eric Duhatschek of The Athletic has proposed a trade that would see the Canes send Jesperi Kotkaniemi to the Flames, as it appears things aren't working out quite as planned for him in Carolina after they acquired him via an offer sheet a few years ago from the Montreal Canadiens. I personally would be trying to trade Kotkaniemi to Calgary because the Flames suddenly have the most salary-cap space of any team in the league and can use help down the middle. Chatty's not going anywhere ‼️3x3mil Eric Tulsky's first move as the general manager and it's a great deal. Time to sign Guentzel, Jarvis, Skjei/Pesce, Martinook among many others. Necas, Kotkaniemi and Freddie Anderson probably getting dealt. Time will tell

A deal is certainly there to be had, although at the moment it is unclear as to who the Hurricanes would be expecting in return for Kotkaniemi, but clearly the Flames are open for business, $22 million in business.
