Pierre Dorion has shared why Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone left Ottawa and the reason is concerning for Senators fans.

Dorion Reveals Why Stone Left Ottawa

Ottawa was the only team that would take a chance on Mark Stone in the 2010 NHL draft. Taken with the 178th overall pick, the Senators found a gem in Stone.

Stone would go on to play in 7 seasons for the Senators where he was one of, if not their top forward year in and year out. Both sides wanted to work out a deal where Stone would be a Senator for life but there was something that halted process that entirely.

This is unfortunate because Stone and Dorion wanting an 8-year deal that would secure Stone in Ottawa would have certainly altered NHL history. The league would look very different if Stone were to have signed and we could be watching the Ottawa Senators compete for the cup as opposed to the Golden Knights.

The Sens were put in a position where they had to undersell on Stone because he was not going to take a pay cut and it resulted in their franchise being forced to rebuild just a few years after.
