We are now about 10 days away from the trade deadline and we have just learned a major piece of information regarding the Montreal Canadiens.

During an evening interview with Jeff Marek of Sportsnet, Kent Hughes made a big revelation about his intentions for the next few days, in relation to March 3rd, and it is frankly disappointing.

Basically, the Tricolore GM admitted that he likes the veterans they have in the lineup and he feels like they have the right mix of veterans to help the young players along the way.

At the end of his privileged discussion with Hughes, Marek mentioned that he expects the Tricolore to be quiet at the deadline. This is definitely not the kind of news that fans of the team wanted to hear in the face of this important time in the season.

After all, the Habs are still rebuilding, the team is full of veterans, some of whom have value on the market, but some of whom do not.

Quite frankly, seeing the St. Louis Blues take some strength out of their roster for the end of the season, as well as acquiring several draft picks, including two first round picks for the 2023 auction, it's disappointing that Hughes will not ultimately look to acquire a third first round pick as well.

This means that Evgenii Dadonov and Jonathan Drouin won't bring anything back, that Sean Monahan and Joel Edmundson won't change address because of their respective injuries, and that Mike Hoffman and Joel Armia won't move, due to their low value and possibly because management likes their experience contribution to the team.

We won't talk about Josh Anderson and David Savard, that the GM might not dare to trade, because of the intangibles they bring on the ice and in the dressing room, despite the high value they have on the market now.

There is always the possibility that this interview is a smoke screen to try to boost the value of his players, in order to increase the bids, but I don't really believe this theory.

Are you disappointed to learn that the Habs may well be very quiet at the trade deadline?
