Dwight Foster, a former first-round draft pick in the NHL who suited up for several teams including Detroit and Boston, has tragically died at the age of 67.

The Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins are sharing some sad news today: Former NHL player Dwight Foster has died at the age of 67.

The Bruins are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dwight Foster, who donned the Spoked-B from 1977-81 as part of the Lunch Pail A.C. and again from 1985-87.

The Detroit Red Wings are saddened to learn of the passing of Dwight Foster, a former player who recorded 110 points in 215 games played with the RedWings from 1982-1986.

Dwight Foster was selected 16th overall in the 1977 NHL Entry Draft by the Bruins after a remarkable season in the OHL with the Kitchener Rangers.

He led that league in scoring, putting up 60 goals and 143 points in 64 games, and was considered one of the top prospects in his draft class.

It took Foster a couple of seasons to get his feet wet in the NHL, but his first full season was quite good, notching 24 goals and 52 points. He would go on to play for the Colorado Rockies, did play four seasons with the Red Wings, and finally finished his career with the Bruins.

Foster retired after the 1986-87 season, having tallied 274 points in 541 NHL games. Not only was he a legend on the ice, but he sure left his mark off the ice too.

Condolences go out to his entire Foster family, friends, and former teammates over his sad passing.
