The Leafs were handed a heavy 6-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators last night and their defensive play was on full display.

Paul Bissonnette Goes Brutally Honest About Leafs Poor Play

Coming into the season many people were worried about the defensive play of the Leafs and those worries have become true.

Paul Bissonnette was the voice of Leafs nation when talking about the Leafs loss last night.

"It's just ugly."

"It's just lost coverage, no sticks in lanes, no commitment to blocking shots, not protecting the most dangerous area of the ice, which we call the house, not taking away time and space, awful gaps, not protecting the defensive blueline...the list goes on and on and on."

"It's disgusting, and if they keep playing like this, they're probably going to miss the playoffs."

Many of the goals scored last night were from poor defensive coverage that every player should know by the time they reach the NHL.

"It's a defensive zone, defensive structure, and a team commitment to playing defense issue. And if it's not addressed, like I said, it's going to get uglier, and uglier and uglier."

One of the newest additions to this Leafs roster John Klingberg has been consistently called out for his defensive play all season long. His poor defensive play plagued the Leafs last night.

Keefe Calls Out Klingbergs Poor Play

Even Leafs Head Coach Sheldon Keefe has called Klingberg out for his defensive play. The Senators second goal of the night was a prime example of Klingberg's defense this season.

Klingberg and Max Domi failed to pick up a man in the defensive zone allowing for an easy goal for the Sens. When asked about Keefe he was blatantly honest.

"Yes."

"We need to protect him better."

Although the season is early, the worries about missing the playoffs are starting. The Leafs lack of defensive play will need to be fixed in order for the Leafs to get back to winning ways.
