After the Stanley Cup Final and the great playoff run in 2021, the fire sale started in the 2021-22 season for the Habs. Obviously stuck with contracts that were far too heavy and major injuries to Carey Price and Shea Weber, the Tricolore could not be in the mix and compete with the best teams. That's when a second-floor housecleaning happened. Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes took over the team and hired Martin St-Louis. Six days later, Hughes' first trade was made and Tyler Toffoli went to Calgary. In that deal, the Habs got the Flames' first 2022 pick (Filip Mesar) and it was believed that was the key piece, but watch out. The Tricolore also got Tyler Pitclick, a fifth round pick in 2023 and prospect Emil Heineman. The Finn did well at the CH's last camp, being one of the last to be cut. Fresh from Europe to help the Rocket, he is simply dominant. Heineman scored seven goals and two assists in eight games in the AHL. He is adapting very quickly to North American hockey and according to Anthony Marcotte, he is definitely NHL caliber.

Only time will tell if Heineman will be able to play with the Habs in the near future, but one thing is for sure, we will have to keep an eye on him as soon as the next training camp in September.
