The Minnesota Wild may have done the boldest thing seen in the 2023-24 NHL regular season during overtime versus the Nashville Predators!

Minnesota Wild use bold tactic in OT

Not only did the Wild go bold, but they won the game thanks to a winner from Matt Boldy! During the final minute of overtime, the Minnesota Wild pulled their goaltender to give the 4-3 advantage in a must win game. In this case it worked out, but if it didn't and the Predators would've scored in the empty net, the Wild would've lost the loser point according to the NHL rulebook.

NHL rules stipulate that a team that pulls the goalie for an extra attacker and winds up losing on an empty-net goal forfeits the point they get for simply getting to overtime.

Minnesota, needing 2 points, pulled the goalie in OT. If the Predators had scored, the Wild would have got 0 points. What a gamble

Perhaps the Wild may have started a trend and we may start to see more teams use that bold strategy implied by Minnesota! What a fun moment in overtime, something we could get used to!
