Over the weekend a scary incident occurred in the AHL when Utica Comets player Filip Engaras fell and needed serious medical attention and now there has been an update. The sport of hockey has been and always will be a physical, fast, and dangerous sport. The gravity of how dangerous a sport hockey can be at the highest levels was on display this past weekend after forward Filip Engaras suffered a scary injury on a big hit during an AHL game. Filip Engaras while playing for the New Jersey Devils AHL affiliate the Utica Comets was sent into the boards by Laval Rocket defender Zack Hayes and his head and neck collided awkwardly with the boards. He was then taken out of the arena on a stretcher.

Just a short time later the Utica Comets provided an update on Engaras and confirmed he was being checked out by paramedics. Before exiting the game Filip Engaras had scored his first goal of the season but after the injury, the focus became solely on his well-being. This afternoon we finally got our first update from the Utica Comets and Filip Engaras about how he is doing and what his prognosis is going forward.
Utica Comets forward Filip Engaras provides a positive update after scary injury
This afternoon via a post on X the Utica Comets allowed Filip Engaras to address fans and speak about the scary incident from over the weekend. The post confirmed that Filip Engaras was indeed home from the hospital and on the road to recovery. He revealed he is excited to get back on the ice as soon as he can and rejoin the fans who showed so much care for him.

Before his injury, Filip Engaras was hoping to carve out a full-time role in the AHL and work towards earning an NHL contract. The goal he scored was supposed to be the big boost he needed to take a major step forward this season. Instead, he will now unfortunately likely be forced to miss several games. With Filip Engaras on the mend hopefully, he can return to the ice sooner rather than later and pick up where he left off scoring goals for the Utica Comets. Luckily this situation worked out well but it is another harrowing reminder of just how dangerous the sport of hockey can be at the highest levels.
