The Belleville Senators, AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators, have signed goaltender Malcom Subban, brother of former NHLer PK Subban, to a contract.

Veteran goaltender Malcolm Subban signed a one-year contract with the Belleville Senators of the AHL. The deal sends Subban back to the AHL with the affiliate club of the Ottawa Senators as he remains in professional hockey. The 30-year-old Toronto-born netminder brings loads of experience and skill to Belleville's roster.

Subban has played very few games in the NHL last 2023-24 season, suiting up in only one game for the Columbus Blue Jackets. However, he has used much of the season in the AHL, having played 35 games while splitting his time between the Springfield Thunderbirds and Cleveland Monsters. He still remains relevant in the AHL, a home where teams do get to have a dependable and experienced goaltender.

Subban was selected by the Boston Bruins with the 24th pick in the 2012 NHL Draft. In 87 NHL contests, he is 36-34-9. He has played for the Bruins, Vegas Golden Knights, Chicago Blackhawks, Buffalo Sabres, and the Blue Jackets. For his career, he has a 3.10 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage.

He has also been one of the stars at the AHL level outside of the NHL. In his career, Subban has compiled an 89-78-32 record with a 2.65 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage, making him pretty reliable. With lots of experience both in the AHL and NHL, this further increases his adaptability to contribute across different levels of professional hockey.

Going back to Belleville means something to Malcolm Subban. The 30-year-old played four years in the Ontario Hockey League with the Belleville Bulls, laying the building blocks for his professional journey. This latest chapter with the Belleville Senators marks a homecoming of sorts, offering him a chance to continue his career in a setting he has grown all too familiar with.
