None of us could have predicted what went down in Game 4 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. The Edmonton Oilers pulled off the most lopsided victory ever by a team facing elimination in the history of the Stanley Cup Final in Game 4, crushing the Florida Panthers 8-1 in front of a rambunctious Oilers crowd. Despite the blowout loss, the Panthers had their own message to send. They took some liberties with the Oilers' top stars, particularly targeting captain Connor McDavid. Both Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk threw punches at McDavid's face, earning trips to the penalty box. At that point, down 5-1 in the second period, it seemed like neither of them cared. This is why nobody respects this clown! Tkachuk with three uppercuts to McDavid. 🐓💩 all day!

Tkachuk landed a series of short uppercuts, followed by Bennett's stiff jab. If you're an Oiler on the ice here, how do you let Tkachuk and then Bennett get to McDavid like this?

When asked about it, Tkachuk didn't deny delivering the blows and was unapologetic. McDavid, meanwhile, took it in stride. I didn't throw very many punches. That's not the game I wanna play. My job is to make sure no one is getting outnumbered. I saw Hyman getting doubled up by Bennett and Tkachuk, so I jumped in to do my part as a teammate. Everyone has to step up in those moments.

McDavid did more than just step up. He scored a goal and added three assists, racking up four points and breaking Wayne Gretzky's single-season record for playoff assists. McDavid's 32 assists are now one better than Gretzky's 31 from the 1988 playoffs. CONNOR MCDAVID HAS BROKEN THE RECORD FOR MOST ASSISTS IN A SINGLE POSTSEASON 🍎🚨

McDavid will get the chance to add to that total in Game 5 on Tuesday night, and the Panthers will no doubt be looking to disrupt his game once again and clinch their maiden cup on home ice.
