An ESPN analyst suggested that the Leafs could still attempt to move Nick Robertson, and in return, they could be targeting the alternate captain of the Kraken.

By season's end, Seattle Kraken forward Yanni Gourde was one of the frequent names in trade rumors, and nothing has changed either this season.

The 33-year-old is on an expiring deal with a $5.17 million AAV and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Because he's older and an upcoming UFA, it's unlikely the Kraken would re-sign him, leaving a trade as all but inevitable.

ESPN's Rachel Doerrie recently threw out a trade scenario that would send Yanni Gourde to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and in exchange, Nick Robertson would be shipped out.

Toronto Maple Leafs Receive:

F/C Yanni Gourde
Seattle Kraken Receive:

F Nick Robertson

Adding Gourde would make the Leafs a more well-rounded team with a two-way presence who could provide depth and secondary scoring, an element head coach Craig Berube has harped on.

No longer a lock for 20 goals, Gourde still brings a strong physical presence onto the rink and can get under the skin of opponents.

Gourde would fit in as a perfect third-line center and move Max Domi back to his natural position on the wing.

He also brings a bunch of playoff experience, having won two Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning, something the Maple Leafs could use come their own playoff run.

The return would be 23-year-old forward Nick Robertson, an up-and-comer who's finally finding his scoring groove with goals in three straight games.

With all that said, while promising, the fit for Robertson has been tenuous at best in Toronto, and maybe Seattle would be that fresh start needed to get him really off.

In each case, the Kraken have targeted players younger and still finding their form in some way with their existing organizations.

The interest they've shown in Kaapo Kakko is another indication. Acquiring Robertson lines up with this plan of snatching a possible sniper for the development of a core in Seattle.
