A report from Elliotte Friedman tonight has revealed that the Edmonton Oilers are giving Evander Kane a difficult choice to make in the next few days. Yesterday a report came out that the Edmonton Oilers were debating whether or not to take Evander Kane off of Long-Term Injured Reserve. At the time the report from Friedman was that Kane was pushing for the Edmonton Oilers to take him off of LTIR and put him back in the lineup which would then force the team to clear salary cap space. It was assumed that the Oilers would do so in the coming days and then trade a depth player or someone on an expiring contract to make room for Evander Kane's returning salary. However, a new report tonight from Friedman suggests that the Edmonton Oilers have given Kane a choice to make regarding his future with the team.
Edmonton Oilers Give Evander Kane A Difficult Choice To Make
According to Friedman's sources, the Edmonton Oilers are exploring the possibility of trading Evander Kane. His full no-trade clause has now become a modified 16-team no-trade clause meaning that Kane could potentially be dealt before the trade deadline. With this new information out there Friedman believes the Oilers have given Kane an ultimatum either stay in Edmonton on LTIR or be traded to a new home before the trade deadline.

If the Oilers number one goal is salary cap flexibility then Kane's contract will be off of the books one way or another before the deadline comes and goes. Over the next several days Stan Bowman and the Edmonton Oilers front office will need to decide how integral Kane is to the organization and whether he is worth keeping at all costs.
