The Oilers have reportedly called to check in on Joel Armia and Jake Evans of the Canadiens to help fix their penalty kill struggles, per insider Pierre LeBrun. The Edmonton Oilers aimed to fix their penalty kill last year at the trade deadline, and it seems they might be doing it again this season. The Oilers, among others, have reached out to the Montreal Canadiens to see about forwards Jake Evans and Joel Armia, TSN's Pierre LeBrun reports.

The Oilers see the similarities between these two and the two Anaheim players they traded for last year (Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick) to bolster their defense.
The Oilers have the 7th worst penalty kill in the NHL
Edmonton's penalty kill has been poor this year, ranking seventh-worst in the league. Montreal is sixth-best at 81.8% with Evans and Armia leading the charge. Armia has accrued 152:48 of penalty-kill minutes, which is the third-most among NHL skaters. With him on the ice, Montreal has allowed 15 goals while scoring six short-handed, leading to a 28.57% goal rate.

Offensively, Armia has contributed a further 10 goals and 24 points through 59 contests, putting him on pace for a career-high of 33 points. Evans, however, could be the Oilers' best option. He's the league's top forward in PK time at 170:04 (10th-most overall) and is a right-handed center with a solid 52.2% faceoff percentage this season. He's also on track for career highs with 11 goals and 27 points already. While not a physical skater, Evans' 88 hits would rank fourth on the Oilers. Both Evans and Armia are not a top-six scoring threat, but each would be an upgrade to Edmonton's bottom six and penalty kill, which would be on the same level as last season's addition of Henrique and Carrick.
