Fans of the Oilers have been restlessly waiting to get an update on injured forward Evander Kane, and coach Kris Knoblauch has finally provided some news. Patience pays off, and patience has been an Edmonton Oilers fan's best friend. Slow out of the gate for the start of the season, things are starting to round out. The powerplay is heating up, the penalty kill is working, and the goaltending is vastly improved. The team is also gradually getting healthier, even as some key pieces remain sidelined. Further patience will be required regarding Evander Kane however. Speaking ahead of tonight's action against the Tampa Bay Lightning, head coach Kris Knoblauch gave an update on the status of Evander Kane, who has yet to make his season debut. You are not going to see or hear anything on him for at least a month, Knoblauch revealed.

Kane had surgery for a sports hernia early in the offseason, and initial projections had him out until February or March. Based on Knoblauch's comments, that doesn't seem to have changed.

Even so, mid-January would be about a month from now, and Kane would probably need a number of weeks of practice before getting back into game action. Realistically speaking, Kane won't be seen in an Oilers lineup until early February. Given the improving form of the Oilers, the wait seems fairly manageable. When Kane does finally hit the ice, the hope is he'll make a big impact. In the meantime, the Oilers seem to have found their stride and will look to continue building on it.
