Today a new report has connected Nashville Predators defenseman Alexandre Carrier to the Edmonton Oilers in a reunion with his former teammate Mattias Ekholm. The Edmonton Oilers are going to be looking to add to their defensive unit this summer. After losing in the Stanley Cup Finals the Oilers need to address defense and reports now indicate they could add Mattias Ekholm's former defensive partner in Nashville. Per Jeff Marek on Sportsnet, Alexandre Carrier is «most likely to be moved.» With Tanev off the market, Carrier is the best and most realistic RHD option available. The Oilers should be all over this.

The reports come after several sources have confirmed that Alexandre Carrier and the Nashville Predators are expected to part ways this summer. The Oilers could add someone that Mattias Ekholm is familiar with and performed well with. Based on what I've heard today, I think Alex Carrier is gone. This isn't «news» really, but with the McDonagh trade, the conversation around Carrier started again. Don't think he's back with NSH next year.

With free agency beginning on Monday, there are expected to be several teams interested in Alexandre Carrier. The Oilers are expected to be one of those teams and could make a big push to reunite the two former Predators. As free agency begins we will continue to update this situation and the moves the Edmonton Oilers ultimately make.
