The Edmonton Oilers roster has been in flux as of late, and now they've recalled an intriguing young defenseman on an emergency basis. The Edmonton Oilers have had a major issue with their defense in recent times, giving up 22 goals in five games since the Four Nations break, with just one victory during that time. There has been holes on their defense for quite some time, and now it appears the injury bug has struck too, as the team announced on Monday that they have recalled defenseman Cam Dineen on an emergency basis ahead of their matchup with the Anaheim Ducks.

Dineen, a 26-year old defenseman has been in the organization for the past three years, but has spent all of that time with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, with just 34 games of NHL experience prior to that with the Arizona Coyotes. In 2024/25, the 5-foot-11 defenseman has tallied 5 goals and 29 points in 45 games played. While it's unlikely he gets into a game in the near future, especially after Edmonton reclaimed Travis Dermott on waivers, he's a great depth piece for this team. With their recent losing skid, the Oilers have fallen four points behind the Vegas Golden Knights in the Pacific Division race, and with a tough stretch of games upcoming, they'll need more of what they got on Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes to keep that chase alive. Dineen certainly won't play a huge role in that chase, but if the team do end up dealing with more injuries. He's proven that he can have success at the AHL level, and with a little time in the NHL if he gets it, there's a chance the team could have a very solid depth option to lean on.
