Evander Kane once challenged boxer Jake Paul to a fight. Now that Mike Tyson lost last night, could Kane be the next opponent Paul takes on?

Friday night brought an unpredictably crazy crossover for Edmonton Oilers fans and boxing fans alike as YouTuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul took on the legendary Mike Tyson.

58 years old, Tyson came into the bout having lost two straight and was one of the most popular storylines in the lead-up to the fight: the age difference between the two fighters.

Eventually, Paul won the fight by decision and took his pro record to 11-1-0, while Tyson, whose career was once deemed invincible, fell to 50-7-0.

Given the circumstances, the result was not entirely surprising; however, the bout proved quite a subject of debate among the audience and critics alike.

Of course, Oilers forward Evander Kane once threw his hat into the ring, calling out Paul for a boxing match several years ago.

At the time, Kane was skating for the San Jose Sharks and made it well known that he wanted to step into the ring with Paul.

Four years later, and unfortunately for hockey and Oiler fans, it seems that dream bout is further away from happening than ever.

For Kane, fresh off of surgery for a sports hernia, the mountain would be steep if he took up boxing, as he is currently getting ready for a return to the Oilers in the early part of 2025.

The learning curve to compete on a high level in the sport is steep indeed; most fighters begin training several years out.

Even with his athleticism in tow, it would take a minimum of at least a year of specific training for Kane to have any hope against a more experienced foe in Paul.

While a Kane-Paul showdown might not be the worst idea to have ever been thrown on the table, it definitely isn't the most practical of all ideas.

The immediate future, however, keeps Kane focused on his recovery while Paul remains very active between the ropes, the latest and most unbelievable case being against individuals more than twice his age.

The whole fiasco may raise an eyebrow or two, but one thing is for sure: Paul's boxing journey is not going cold anytime soon.
