Brad Holland is no longer employed by the Edmonton Oilers, as it was announced by the club today that they are parting ways with their assistant GM.

The team described this as a mutual decision. Brad Holland, 43, originally signed with the club as a pro scout ahead of the 2019-20 season, the same year his father, Ken Holland, took over as the Oilers' general manager. He spent three years in the scouting department before being promoted to assistant GM ahead of last season, focusing on professional scouting for two years. Prior to joining the Oilers, Holland had spent two years serving as team manager with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In his time with the Oilers, the more calculated approach from Holland has brought the club's player evaluation into the 21st century, with signings like Zach Hyman, Mattias Ekholm, and Klim Kostin, all players who have been impactful to date.

Holland's promotion to assistant GM came when other teams were curious about him for a similar role; perhaps a similar scenario is playing out currently. With his father stepping down and the organization bringing in Stan Bowman as the new general manager, and with Jeff Jackson leading the way as head of hockey operations, it isn't a complete surprise that Holland is on the move.

The strong analytics advocate Jackson then took a big step forward in the team's analytics approach with the hiring of Michael Parkatti as the senior director of data and analytics. While Holland had been very instrumental in pushing the Oilers towards a more data-driven front office, that shift to modern analysis is likely to continue.

At least for now, there is no word on a replacement for Brad Holland.
