The Philadelphia Flyers took a step forward in 2023/24, and now with the arrival of a top rookie, Head Coach John Tortorella has quickly tempered expectations. This off-season, there have been many intriguing stories surrounding the Philadelphia Flyers, but none quite match the hype and excitement of the arrival of Matvei Michkov. The No. 7 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft has drawn plenty of optimism in the Flyers fanbase, and with a role potentially opening up for him in Philadelphia's top-six, we could be looking at a star in the making. However, Flyers GM Danny Briere recently stated in an interview that they were looking to bring him along at the NHL level slowly, while he tempered expectations for the 19-year old Russian star. Now, Head Coach John Tortorella has done the same, telling the media much of the same in only the unique way that Coach Torts can do. <q>John Tortorella on Matvei Michkov: I like players with personality. This doesn't mean that Michkov won't be featured throughout the year, as he is expected to play a huge role for the team, but that he may get plenty of healthy scratches throughout the year to further his development, so while it might frustrate some fans, it's clear that this organization has a great plan in place for a star of the future.
