Matvei Michkov recently signed an autograph as he was walking to his locker room following an ejection, and now Flyers coach John Tortorella has just found out. Less than 24 hours after John Tortorella's fiery press conference ripped officials, rookie Matvei Michkov made headlines for a different reason on Sunday. In a chippy affair that saw the Philadelphia Flyers take on the Utah Hockey Club, Matvei Michkov was kicked out of the game in the aftermath of a wild scrum with less than a minute remaining. Surrounded by a sea of referees, the 20-year-old didn't hold back from throwing punches and exchanging trash talk. On his way to the locker room, Michkov did something seldom seen in the NHL anymore, he stopped to sign an autograph for a young fan, as promised, earlier in the game.

An on-site witness explained that the youngster had asked for it in the opening seconds of the third, with Michkov promising it would be done after the game.

Realizing that probably wouldn't happen after his ejection, Michkov took a moment to make the fan's day before heading off. Many thought this was a real classy thing to do, but for head coach John Tortorella, word finally came in the form of questions at a press conference. Old school and intense, Tortorella was caught off guard but responded well. The coach can't be too displeased with his young star: leading all rookies with 27 points in 27 games, Michkov continues to impress. He had two assists in the Flyers' most recent win over the Columbus Blue Jackets, including a highlight-reel setup on Morgan Frost's opening goal. The Flyers are now fourth in the Metropolitan Division, having a 13-12-4 record. Tomorrow, their next challenge comes against the Detroit Red Wings.
