Well that didn't last long. Fool me once, shame on me , fool me twice, and I won't say the rest because we now know our verdict three weeks later.

Defenseman Jani Hakanpaa's brief stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs is about to end for all the wrong reasons. The team never officially announcing the move despite numerous reports of an agreement raised concerns and now they've come true. The loss is a big blow to the Buds blueline depth.

Jani Hakanpaa missed 18 games this season and led his team in hits by 86. He's the injury that made Dallas rush to get Tanev as a replacement. PK specialist who hits everything and is a defensive zone start machine.

On the bright side for the Leafs, they still have Chris Tanev, another former Dallas Star, and Stanley Cup champion Oliver Ekman-Larsson from the Florida Panthers to strengthen their defense. Fans can kick back, relax and still be confident in their defensive core.

Brad Treliving, the Leafs' GM, signed Hakanpaa to a 2-year, $3 million deal. However, PuckPedia has removed Hakanpaa from the Leafs' roster because he failed his physical.

Jani Hakanpaa's injury last season raises concern about an otherwise promising Leafs signing

He's been battling a knee injury and missed the entire Stars playoff run to the Western Conference Finals where they lost to the Edmonton Oilers in six games.
