Word is that the Flames and Utah Hockey Club have been discussing a trade involving Rasmus Andersson in exchange for picks and a prospect.

The Flames are looking to free up some cap space and gather more draft picks and prospects to support their rebuild.

#Flames and #UtahHC have reportedly discussed a trade involving Rasmus Andersson for picks and a prospect. Trying to find out more on this. #NHL

The 27 year-old is in the prime of his career, is reliable defensively and contributes offensively, with 138 points over the past three seasons despite limited power play opportunities. His contract contains two years left at a «cheap» $4.55 million cap hit. How can you pass this up if given the opportunity by GM Craig Conroy who's openly tanking?

Should the Calgary Flames trade Rasmus Andersson?

There's also talk of potential interest from the New York Rangers, who would give up forward and 2019 second overall pick Kaapo Kakko.

#Flames are looking to eat some cap space for draft picks and prospects. They also have received some interest in D Rasmus Andersson, but thats going to be quite a hefty price. Have discussed interest in Kaapo Kakko with #NYR as well. #NHL

Andersson's value on a team-friendly deal means Calgary should get a haul for him. Keep an eye on this one, as it could lead to some exciting developments in the dog days of Summer.
