Maple Leafs acquire former top pick of the New York Rangers in latest trade proposal

The New York Rangers appear ready to move on from Kaapo Kakko, and with the Maple Leafs looking to deal Nick Robertson, a deal could be had between them.

This off-season has been a solid one for Toronto, but with Nick Robertson maintaining his trade request, it appears Brad Treliving will need to address that situation soon. According to recent reports, the 22-year old is adamant he wants to be traded as the Maple Leafs haven't given him a defined role ahead of the 2024/25 season, and unsurprisingly, this has led to much trade speculation.

Now, a trade proposal has come to light that could see them swap Robertson and several assets to the New York Rangers to acquire underwhelming Kaapo Kakko, who could potentially be a top-six fit for the team moving forward.

It may not be the perfect trade, but in Kakko, the Maple Leafs get a player that has tallied 31 goals over his past two seasons, and with so much talent, it may simply just take the right linemates to help him click. As for the Rangers, they'd get the talented Robertson, who is better suited to play in their middle-six, and with two extra assets, it's a deal that could work for both teams.

At this point, it may just be a matter of time until Robertson is traded by Toronto, and if the team could get back a former No. 2 overall pick, it would make plenty of fans very happy.
