Mitch Marner was involved in trade rumors lately that has linked him to the Nashville Predators, and it appears that Ryan O'Reilly has confirmed this to be true. There were times over the last few weeks where it appeared the Leafs and Predators were closing in on a Marner trade. Former teammate O'Reilly seems to have confirmed that those rumors were in fact true. Things get even juicier after it was reported by Nick Kypreos that O'Reilly actually went to speak with GM Barry Trotz and tried to twist his hand into acquiring Marner. Prior to the Predators spending a whack of dough on free agents (Steven) Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei, ex-Leaf Ryan O'Reilly did his very best to convince GM Barry Trotz to make a push and trade for Mitch Marner, Kypreos said.

It no longer appears that Marner will be heading to Nashville, after Trotz made massive splashes on July 1st, acquiring Steven Stamkos, Brady Skjei and Jonathan Marchessault. That's too bad for O'Reilly, as he really wanted Marner back as his teammate. He brings so many things. He's so competitive, but I think just how elusive he is. With the way he can create plays, and just being off balance, and being able to put these pucks in the right areas. Just such a competitor, O'Reilly told reporters including TSN's Mark Masters. Getting to play with him in the short time I did, it was just so fun. You see the way he sees the game, at such a unique level.

Fans may have to wait a while before seeing the two players reunite on the ice, if it ever does happen, however, it will surely be fun to watch O'Reilly battle his buddy when the Leafs meet the Preds for the first time next season, providing Marner is still with Toronto.
