The Utah Hockey Club had a historic day today as they played their first ever NHL pre-season game, but things did not go to plan when they accidentally scored on their own net. It was early in the game and Utah was down 0-1 to the St. Louis Blues. However, they were on a delayed penalty giving them a good opportunity to tie the game. Instead though, Utah forward Milos Keleman sent the puck back towards the blueline to cycle the puck, but missed his intended target and the puck rolled all the way down the ice into their own vacant net, doubling the deficit.

Obviously, this was an embarrassing mistake for Keleman, who is battling for a roster spot. Furthermore, this was technically the first ever goal by a Utah player in an NHL game, but luckily he will not be credited with it. Mistakes likes these are bound to happen, especially in pre-season games, so hopefully the young forward does not feel too bad about it. That being said, this moment could hurt his chances of making the team. Luckily, Utah forward Michael Carcone would eventually get his team on the board for their first proper goal of the pre-season. Again, this was a historic moment for the franchise as it was the first real goal scored by any player on the team in an official game, even if it is just pre-season.

Carcone's teammates would start to pile it on after that, with the team battling back from a 0-2 deficit to take the lead late in the 3rd period thanks to a goal from former 3rd overall pick Logan Cooley. Carcone would then find the net again, scoring an empty netter on the correct goal this time to secure the win by a final score of 5-3.

Utah is in a unique situation this year as it will be their first campaign as a team since they moved from Arizona. Additionally, all franchise records have effectively been reset as the Coyotes technically could return to the league. Last year, the Coyotes came somewhat close to making the playoffs though so Utah could build off that success and potentially impress their fans right out of the gate. Plus, there will be lots of cool moments along the way such as the first goal, first win, and so much more. Be sure to tune in to Utah's games this season to witness history for yourself.
