The former Vancouver Canucks player J.T. Miller could face disciplinary action after tampering allegations emerged. NHL players are forbidden from tampering in trade talks, even when former teammates are involved. In a new development, it appears that J.T. Miller did so anyway with one of his former Vancouver Canucks teammates' trade to the New York Rangers. Miller, who joined the Rangers over a month ago in a trade involving Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and a first-round draft pick, remained close with a few players in Vancouver and apparently used his connections to facilitate a trade involving Carson Soucy. Soucy had to lift his no-trade clause to accept joining the Rangers, who sent a third-round draft pick to acquire him from the Canucks. Per Elliotte Friedman:

Rick Dhaliwal later reported that Miller played a role in convincing Soucy to lift his NMC to join the Rangers:

Miller could face official consequences for tampering. But it won't change the fact that the Rangers were able to get the player they wanted. General Manager Chris Drury had some great words about the defenseman following his acquisition: I certainly like his versatility. He has played a bit on the right. He's played in a lot of different situations in Seattle and in Vancouver. He's played a little bit with [defenseman Will] Borgen. ... We think there are a lot of possibilities with Carson, whether it's with 'Schneids' (Braden Schneider), 'Foxy' (Adam Fox), Will, or even having him on the right side at some point. We'll see how it plays out, and I'm glad we were able to get him. I was excited about the term, excited about the number to start. He's not a rental, someone we could have for the rest of the year and next year. Just like his overall game, his size, his skating, his sense, and how he defends. We were able to do some homework on him the last couple of weeks, and we're excited we were able to get him with the piece we got in the Reilly Smith trade.

He may be a great addition to the Rangers, but the circumstances leading up to the trade will likely be reviewed by the NHL after these allegations came out.
