In an interview after the NHL Trade Deadline, Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has revealed pure frustration with not being able to trade Brock Boeser. This morning, Boeser himself addressed the media and was relieved to still be with the Canucks organization. While Boeser is glad to still be in Vancouver many are confused by the entire situation as he still does not have an extension is an impending free agent. Boeser seemed like a clear candidate to be moved for impactful assets both for this season and beyond by GM Patrik Allvin. Thanks to a new interview with Allvin it has been revealed that he was indeed trying desperately to move on from Boeser and things just did not work out.
Patrik Allvin Shares His Frustration After Not Being Able To Trade Brock Boeser
In an interview Allvin was asked if he was comfortable with the risk of losing Boeser for nothing in free agency if a deal is not struck before then. Allvin seemed to begrudgingly answer the question confirming they know the risk and that they had few options other than to keep him as a self rental.

This makes it seem like Allvin's preferred plan was to move Boeser to a new home and bring back a similarly impactful forward. Of course, that did not happen and now the Canucks will move forward and try to bring a Stanley Cup back to Vancouver. While Allvin was frustrated with the results of the deadline Boeser's teammate Elias Pettersson is thrilled that his teammate is sticking around for the rest of the season.

Now the focus will shift for the rest of the season, Allvin and Boeser's agent will continue to hammer away at negotiations and try to get an extension to keep him in Vancouver long-term. Either way, Allvin is taking a major risk for the rest of the season that he has to hope will pay off one way or the other.
