Despite taking a 2-0 lead in the last game before Christmas against the Stars, the Habs lost 3-2 in regulation time.

The story of the game is quite simple: too many penalties and a good team like Dallas made them pay for their indiscipline. However, honorable mention to the fourth line, which got the two goals of the game from Jake Evans and Michael Pezzetta.

Arpon Basu of The Athletic put his finger on what's wrong with the Habs lately and the stats he pulled up are quite revealing, if not shocking.

"The Canadiens have scored 14 goals in eight games. They had to kill 34 penalties, but only killed 24. That's 14 goals scored, to 10 goals allowed only shorthanded in eight games. They haven't won a duel in regulation time during that time and have collected a paltry five points out of a possible 16." - Arpon Basu

When you look at it that way, it's pretty shocking how Martin St. Louis' men are getting outplayed and it's a miracle they even got five points. A big thank you to Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault.
