Patrick Roy is arguably the best goaltender of all time. That being said, he's also proven himself to be a pretty good coach. Today he made a shocking return to the NHL as one team hired him to replace their previous head coach.
Islanders Make Roy New Head Coach After Four-Game Losing Streak
The Islanders have been somewhat disappointing this season. The team has been especially bad in overtime as they dropped their 11th contest in extra time last night to the 31st place Chicago Blackhawks.

The loss seemed to be the final nail in the coffin for Lane Lambert, as the Islanders announced this afternoon that he had been replaced by Patrick Roy. The @NYIslanders have named Patrick Roy as their new head coach. 🟠🔵

Roy has established himself as an effective head coach across multiple leagues. He has some experience in the NHL, where he put up a 130-92-24 record behind the bench with the Colorado Avalanche. He is also coming off a memorial cup win with the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL. You just knew after Patrick Roy led the Remparts to a Memorial Cup last year that the NHL had to be the next step. They are currently 6th in the metro division, but they are still in the race. Still though, it will be a tough assignment for the veteran coach.
