The Canadiens' seventh-round pick (199th overall) in 2017 had a pretty rough season this year, finishing the campaign with a 19-15-6 record. However, Cayden Primeau mentioned that the adversity he faced this season helped him improve and become a better goaltender: I've had my ups and downs this season. I'm trying to learn from that and that's experience I'm getting. That's the only way to get better. I feel stronger mentally. Fortunately for Jean-Francois Houle's men, the goaltender has been at the top of his game for the past three games. As the Rocket battled for a playoff spot, Cayden Primeau has been sensational, allowing Laval to win these last three games and qualify for spring ball. During that stretch, the American goaltender posted an impressive .952 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average.

Last year, the Rocket's goaltender was an essential part of the team's success in the playoffs when the Blue-White-Red's training club finally lost in seven games to the Springfield Thunderbirds in the association final. The goaltender finished the playoffs with a 9-5-0 record, a .936 save percentage and a 2.17 goals against average. Soon to be 24 years old, Cayden Primeau has never been able to establish himself on a regular basis in the NHL during his numerous call-ups to the big club. Although he still has two years left on his contract, the Michigan native will have to seize his opportunity if he wants to be in the staff's plans for the next few seasons. Kent Hughes is still looking for a number one goalie to replace Carey Price and if Cayden Primeau is unable to perform, the CH general manager will have no choice but to turn to the draft or the trade market to find his future goalie.
