As we reported yesterday, the Avalanche lost the services of their best forward, Nathan MacKinnon, who had to leave the game in the first period against the Philadelphia Flyers.

MacKinnon was hit by Scott Laughton of the Flyers, which caused an upper body injury. MacKinnon tried to continue to play a few more shifts, but he just wasn't able to continue and had to retreat to the dressing room.

This morning, his coach, Jared Bednar, confirmed the possible disaster, as he admitted to expecting a long-term absence for number 29. However, he did not specify the severity of his player's upper body injury.

MacKinnon, 27, has been on fire this season with eight goals and 26 assists for 34 points in 23 games.

The Avalanche's injury list has become atrocious as they have lost defensemen Kurtis MacDermid, Bowen Byram and Josh Manson, as well as forwards Artturi Lehkonen, Jean-Luc Foudy, Evan Rodrigues, Shane Bowers, Gabriel Landeskog, Darren Helm, Valeri Nichushkin and now Nathan MacKinnon.

It's starting to look pretty bad in Colorado!

Here is the sequence where he seems to have been injured :

More details will follow.
