Jake Allen on waivers? A proposal that makes sense

To start, let's not jump to conclusions. Jake Allen is still in Kent Hughes and the Canadiens' plans. However, with Cayden Primeau appearing more and more ready to make the leap to the professionals, the organization might be less patient with number 34.

Here's what I mean.

Last year, Allen had an unfortunate tendency to let in one or more goals at the beginning of games/periods, and we saw the same trend in his game against the Maple Leafs a few days ago. A very weak goal on the first shot of the game.

We shouldn't panic since these are preseason games, but if this continues into the season, the organization will have an important decision to make.

This is exactly what La Presse's journalist, Simon-Olivier Lorange, suggests.

"Personally, I have a left-field suggestion: if Jake Allen doesn't have a good start to the season, I'd send him to Laval."

Of course, Allen would need to go through waivers, but with his salary, no team would claim him, barring a big surprise. He would then go directly to Laval.

Kent Hughes is at a crossroads with his goaltenders. He needs to do what's best for the team in the medium and long term and stick to the plan. Allen won't be in Montreal in two years, and if Cayden Primeau plays the way he did in the preseason, there's no reason for him to be the one left out, especially since he'd have to go through waivers and there's a good chance he'd be claimed.
