The Vancouver Canucks have made the unfortunate announcement today that they have placed injured goaltender Thatcher Demko on injured reserve.

Thatcher Demko (lower body) was put on injured reserve Sunday, according to Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650. The Vancouver Canucks' best goaltender is week-to-week and will not be ready for the remainder of the team's road trip.

Demko has appeared in 17 games this year with a record of 6-6-3, posting a 2.87 GAA, a.891 save percentage, and one shutout. In his place, Arturs Silovs took over as the backup in Vancouver's 3-1 loss to Vegas on Saturday.

Demko will be out for at least the entire lengthy road trip

The 29-year-old didn't accompany the team on their five-game road journey following the 4 Nations Face-Off break.

He wasn't seen with an indication of injury during his last game against Toronto, and head coach Rick Tocchet kept mum on how serious it was at first, ensuring that it had nothing to do with Demko's previous left knee injury.

Last year's Vezina Trophy finalist, Demko missed training camp and the first 24 games this year recuperating from a knee injury suffered in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

He entered the season on Dec. 10, registering 21 saves in a 4-3 overtime defeat of St. Louis. He also missed a Jan. 2 shootout win over Seattle with back spasms, missing two games.

Although his overall numbers are down this season, Demko was performing well prior to his latest injury, recording a 3-1-0 mark with a 1.25 GAA and.952 save percentage in his last four starts heading into facing Toronto on Feb. 8.
