The Chicago Blackhawks may not be a great team right now, but with rising star Connor Bedard showing off his talents in his rookie campaign, it's seemingly just a matter of time until they become a major free agent destination once more.
Two major superstars linked to the Chicago Blackhawks

Yesterday on the latest edition of the Spittin Chiclets 'Game Notes' podcast, we saw this bombshell dropped;

Whether or not it's a credible rumour, it certainly had the entirety of hockey social media talking, with the possibility of Connor Bedard playing alongside both William Nylander and Elias Pettersson getting plenty of Blackhawks fans excited. While it's very tough to predict the future for players in the NHL, it appears as though one part of this rumour has already been shut down by veteran NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman.
Slow down on the Pettersson to Chicago talk
On the latest episode of 32 Thoughts, Friedman brought up this rumour, and while he didn't outright say it was a lie, he certainly told fans to temper their expectations if they believe this is a major possibility. Matt Murley is not an idiot. He hears things. I've seen the stuff that he reports. He gets information, people talk to him. I would say about this one, I think it's premature.

At this point in time, if Pettersson's intention is to win now, Chicago may not be the best option, but if can indeed team up with Nylander and Bedard, at 25-years of age, he would certainly have the time to turn this team into a genuine contender. With the Canucks chasing a Stanley Cup in 2023-24 however, it's very premature to talk about his future, because if the team find playoff success this season, he may want to come back, but if not, Chicago certainly becomes a very interesting option.
