On the latest episode of the Trade Rumours Abound podcast, experts Darren Dreger, Pierre LeBrun and Ryan Rishaug discussed a hot commodity in Vancouver, Bo Horvat. According to LeBrun, Horvat is the most coveted player and the one who would bring in the most money by the trade deadline. The reason is simple, the Canucks captain will become an unrestricted free agent and he does not have a no-trade clause in his current deal. This means that the Canucks will be free to trade him wherever they want and to whichever team makes the best offer, unlike the Blackhawks with Patrick Kane, who has a no-movement clause. The Hawks will therefore not have full control over their player's destiny, which will certainly limit the expected return for him in a trade. I would add to LeBrun's comments that the fact that Horvat is only 27 years old, compared to Kane who is 33, should have an impact on the price received in a potential trade. I wouldn't be surprised if in a trade for Horvat, a contract extension could complete his acquisition with the team that picked him up. This would thus explode his trade value. Also, the fact that Horvat is a great two-way center makes him a valuable piece of depth for a team that wants to win big.
